The President's Statement
Education Must Be Fixed in 2006
First giving all honor to the Great Architect of the Universe.
It is a profound pleasure for me to bring you greetings on behalf of the Newly elected and re-elected Officers and Executive
Committee Members At-Large and the recently appointed
Standing and Special Committee Chairs.
Within the history of every organization there comes a necessity and opportunity to bring about change. We sincerely thank the outgoing officers for the service that they rendered to our Branch and the citizens of Baltimore City, the state of Maryland, and the entire country.
Our community, as many of us are cognizant, is excited about these new officers, their history in the community, and the possibility of seeing a very active NAACP Baltimore City Branch. Many citizens are asking, better yet demanding, for the type of community commitment and involvement that we saw and experienced when Dr. Lillie Carroll Jackson and Enolia P. McMillan were Presidents.
These are very serious and critical times for the Baltimore
City Branch NAACP. A significant and immediate increase in
membership is urgent. Our community is and has been crying-out
for a more progressive and aggressive NAACP. The Baltimore
City Branch NAACP will assuredly ‘came alive in 2005’ with
the acquired membership that we asked for. Please join
today if you are not already a member - and please renew
your membership if you are a member and just haven’t
had the opportunity or inclination to renew. Financially
- we can and must do enormously better – like yesterday.
We need and ask for your membership.
My Presidential Theme is: Children, Church, Labor and Community.
We must make the education, health and welfare of our children
#1. To a degree, we have failed our children here in Baltimore
City. Many feel that there has been a disconnect as it relates
to the NAACP Baltimore City Branch and our faith based institution
and leaders. With the support of a strong, active and intelligent
Executive Committee we will re-connect and increase our relationship.
The Health of our community is another significant focus
for us with special attention being placed on the much neglected
health of our members. Another major emphasis will be to
get the community back involved with the branch. Our strong
relationship must be with our community – not politicians
and certain elected officials.
We hope to update this message on a quarterly basis thereby keeping you well informed as we actively involve the branch and better serve those that we were elected to service.
Please keep our Executive Committee and me and your prayers and, by all means, help us to obtain more NAACP members. The Fight For Freedom Needs More Freedom Fighters!!!
The Struggle Continues,
Marvin L. ‘Doc’ Cheatham, Sr.
7th President
NAACP Baltimore City Branch
