Hon. Marvin L. ‘Doc’ Cheatham, Sr.Public Servant | Health Enthusiast | Civil Rights Leader | Human Rights Activist View some of Doc's successes (PDF) Brief Biographical Sketch"Doc," as he is affectionately called, is an Election Specialist with the National Labor Relations Board – a U.S. Federal Governmental Agency. His is now in his 38th year with the NLRB. He‟s a member and Past President of the NLRB Union, Local 5. Dr. Cheatham is the 17th President and Life Member of the NAACP Baltimore City Branch. At the July 2009 NAACP 100TH Anniversary National Convention in New York the Baltimore City Branch was awarded the 2009 National Thalheimer Programmatic 1st Place Class 1-A Branch Award and the 2009 National Thalheimer Class 1-A Publication 1st Place Branch Award. Marvin is a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He is the proud recipient of the highest award that any Sigma can receive which is the Distinguished Service Chapter Key #124. A strong follower of "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired" – Fannie Lou Hamer - "Doc" Cheatham has registered, since 1973, more voters in the State of Maryland than anyone. The recipient of over 300 awards, citations, plaques and certificates. He honors the greatly the Academic Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters presented him in June 2009 by Sojourner Douglass College. Some of the significant awards that he has received are: The Honored Hours Award from the Fullwood Foundation, Inc.; The 2009 Rotary Club of Woodlawn-Westview Harlow Fullwood Service Above Self Community Service Award and The 2009 A. Phillip Randolph Community Service Award. He recently served on Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake‟s 2010 Transition Team. Dr. Cheatham was recently appointed as District Commissioner for the Reginald Lewis District of the Baltimore Area – Boy Scouts of America. This year, 2010, is the 100th Anniversary for the Boys Scouts. He is an alumnus of Coppin State University and is a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Dr. Cheatham is father of Marvin Louis, Jr., Monika Lynette and Marcus Louis and married to the very attractive and intelligent Annette Britton-Cheatham. "Doc" is the Visionary and Founder of Men‟s Blue Suit Health Awareness Weekend which celebrates its fourth year here in Baltimore. The project that he created brings health information to men and is supported by over 2 dozen health institutions in the greater Baltimore Metropolitan Area. He is also the founder of „Saving Ourselves Saturday‟ - a Saturday weekly walk that encourages walking, drinking water and eating more fruits and vegetables. Presently he is spearheading an effort to get 1st Lady Michelle Obama here to Baltimore to discuss her exciting and much needed Childhood Obesity Program called LETSMOVE.ORG. His personal coined motto is: "Be Concerned, Get Involved & Stay Committed." |
