Invited guest are: Donald W. Devore [confirmed], Secretary – Maryland Department of Juvenile Services; Maryland State Senator Robert A. (Bobby) Zirkin [pending] District 11; Maryland State Senator C. Clarence Muse [pending] 26th District; Cameron E. Miles [confirmed] – Advocates for Children and Youth; Marlana Valdez [confirmed] Maryland Juvenile Justice Independent Monitor, Maryland Attorney General’s Office; Patricia Jessamy [confirmed] – Baltimore City States Attorney; Kimberly M. Amstrong [pending] Maryland Parents of Incarcerated Children-Youth; Attorney Deborah St. Jean [confirmed] Director of Juvenile Protection Division for the Office of the Public Defender; Attorney Hillary Davis [confirmed] - Classified Municipal Employees Association; Rev. Hopson, Sr. Topics for discussion will include the availability of programs to which youth offenders can be referred for services; recent occurrences dealing with juveniles; interaction with the courts; and involvement of the Department of Juvenile Services staff in effecting positive change in the lives of children in “the system.” President Dr. Cheatham states: “the format will include the panel discussion along with a Q & A period from the audience. Political, church and community leaders will be gathered to share both an interest and an expertise in matters related to the state of juvenile services here in Maryland, and in Baltimore City in particular.” “…Along with addressing the system the NAACP will be strongly encouraging increased proactive parental involvement and heightened accountability,” states Dr. Cheatham.
